See Challenge 18/6/06 - Gill and David set off on their 190 mile Coast to Coast challenge in aid of the National Missing Persons Helpline. 8/1/06 - It is 22 months now since Gareth was last seen and there has been renewed interest in missing persons. Today sees the article in the Sunday Times 27/10/05 - Gill and I went to the FCO in London after we received an invitation from Dr Kim Howells to discuss Missing Persons Protocols. Read about the visit here. 9/9/05 - Gareth's Gallery went online today visit it at The Gallery 29/8/05 - The September News Letter has now been published containing previously unseen letters. Join today by signing up at the bottom of the Home Page. 20/7/05 - Dr Kim Howells MP the Minister of State has written us a four page letter in reply to our meeting with Baroness Symons in February 05. This is the first letter that we have received that actually admits that perhaps Gareth's disappearance could have been handled differently. I have been invited to contact the FCO and assist them in formulating a guide for relatives of what the FCO can and can't do in relation to missing persons. A big THANK YOU to Dr Howells. 1/6/05 - We received a letter today from Keith Bloomfield the HM Ambassador to Nepal stating amongst other things that it is not a matter for the Embassy in Nepal to have a Missing Persons Protocol and that it is solely the responsibility of the FCO in London. 26/5/05 - The Chief Constable for the Thames Valley Police, Peter Neyroud has toady written to Dr Kim Howells MP Minister of State asking what developments the FCO have in relation to Gareth and in particular in relation to the new National Police Guidance on handling missing person cases. 23/5/05 - Today sees the launch of 'Gareth's News' which is the result of family and friends asking what's new? The news letter will be published when there is new news about the search for Gareth. 23/5/05 - A letter has been sent to Keith Bloomfield HM Ambassador in Nepal asking him why he thinks it is perfectly safe in Nepal. READ WHY HERE 1/5/05 - A new regular News Letter called 'Gareth's News' starts to day. This has been started due to requests from friends who have asked "What is the latest news?" 11/04/05 - To coincide with Gareth's 26th birthday on the 18th April we are sending out 500 post cards to prominent figures from Tony Blair to the Chief Constable of the Thames Valley Police Force. These cards will again highlight the lack of progress in the search for information about Gareth's disappearance. 17/3/05 - LATEST NEWS IS THAT '800' BADGES HAVE NOW BEEN SENT OUT. We are also looking for people to translate the English version into other languages. 10/1/05 - Ed Vaizey, the Prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Wantage has organised a meeting with Baroness Symons for the 21st February. This will be exactly a year to the day since Gareth arrived in Nepal. 7/1/05 - We have received a letter from Baroness Symons (Minister of State) explaining British Government policy in relation to missing persons in Nepal. She has also agreed to meet with us. We look forward to receiving some answers. 22/12/04 - We received a private letter from The RT HON Michael Howard QC MP outlining his plans to put pressure on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Tony Blair take note!!!!!! 7/12/04 - Today sees the inclusion of Gareth on the National Missing Persons Helpline web site. Visit it at NMPH. 5/12/04 - Today sees a public invitation to Ian Napier to finally 'set the record straight' in relation to what really happened in Nepal. Please see the forum page under . This post has now been edited due to a verbal request from Ian Napier. 28/11/04 - I have written to Michael Howard MP, leader of the opposition asking him for his help. 23/11/04 - After waiting since July for a response from Tony Blair we have finally received a reply today from 10 Downing Street. Please see the forum page under 'Tony finally replies - well nearly'. 23/10/04 - After four weeks in Nepal we have returned with no new news about Gareth's disappearance. Despite trekking more than 142 km we have found no one who remembers Gareth after the 8th March. 23/10/04 - Tony Blair has now refused to answer either letter that I have written to him. What's the matter Tony, questions too difficult for you? 20/09/04 - We fly to Nepal today and we plan to spend four weeks there looking for some trace of Gareth or a possible reason as to why he has not been in touch. Wish us luck. 12/09/04 - Still no reply from Tony Blair so I have written again.......He's a busy man you know!!!!! 2/09/04 - A total of £1,644.20 was raised during the street party on Saturday 28th August. A big thank you to you all but especially to Hilary and Sally. 28/08/04 - Some very dear friends of ours are holding a street party to raise funds for our trip in September. Here's hoping for some good weather. Thank you to all those that are involved in this event. 20/08/04 - A letter to the editor of the Oxford Times that I wrote regarding Tony Blair was published. A copy of this is on the Forum. 14/08/04 - Still no reply from Tony Blair.............We're still waiting Tony. 7/08/04 - We have today received a letter from a Denis MacShane the Minister for Europe who has fudged the issues concerning the Embassy in Nepal and has not answered those questions that were asked of the FCO in London. 2/08/04 - Still no news from Tony Blair (must be on holiday) and still no reply from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London (perhaps they are on holiday as well). 2/08/04 - Richard Beeson where are you? 22/7/04 - Today we met with Central Television and gave an interview in relation to the treatment received from the Embassy in Nepal. This interview has been aired on all the local news bulletins. We await any comment from a government department over this issue. 19/7/04 - A very positive meeting between ourselves and a local reporter who will ensure our letter reaches Tony Blair and she will also be getting Downing Street to give an official reply. This will be posted on the forum as soon as we receive it. 18/7/04 - There are two new press releases planned for the coming week one on Monday 19 July and one for Thursday 22 July. 18/7/04 - We still have had no contact from Richard Beeson at the Embassy. 13/7/04 - A personal letter to Prime Minister Tony Blair has been sent in the hope that he will intervene in the ongoing appalling treatment that our family have received and are still receiving from the British embassy in Nepal. 3/7/04 - Richard Beeson takes over as the new HM Consul at the British Embassy in Nepal. Hopefully he will update us on his progress so far. 26/6/04 - Met with Ed Vaizey, the Prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Wantage. Mr Vaizey believes he can do something to help in our search through his media contacts. 15/6/04 - We met Ian Napier, Gareth's trekking partner. Unfortunately hardly any new information was discovered from this lengthy discussion in the presence of Geoff Webb from Thames Valley Police. It has been confirmed that Gareth and Ian had a disagreement that led to them parting company but Ian Napier was unable to clarify the reason for this disagreement as he failed to ask Gareth what the problem was. 8/6/04 - A meeting has been arranged with Gareth's walking partner Ian Napier for the 15th June 2004, to clarify the walking itinerary as recorded in Ian Napier's walking journal. Hopefully this will answer some of the outstanding questions and concerns that our family and the International Trekking community has. |
